IIHF Mens U18 World Championship Preview (Div II Grp A)

This week it’s the turn of Team GB’s U18 Men’s ice hockey team to host their World Championship group in Dumfries, Scotland.

Competing in Division II Group A, hopes are high that GB can compete for a medal and perhaps even the coveted gold medal and promotion.

They will be facing Croatia, Korea, Lithuania, Netherlands and Romania.
The Netherlands are the new team in this group having gained promotion in their last campaign by winning all five games and outscoring the opposition by 29-6.
Korea drop into the group having the opposite record as Netherlands, as they lost all five games and only managed to hit the twine on eight occasions.
Of the remaining teams that GB faced last time around, they recorded two victories and a loss.
Squeaking past Lithuania and Romania by a single goal whilst falling to Croatia by a 5-2 scoreline.

Lewis Hook will captain Team GB and he racked up four goals and a pair of assists in the last U18 campaign as well as being a part of the U20 team that played this past December.
The selected squad will see fourteen newcomers to the GB fold but also five players who represented the U20 in December, so there is a real mix of experience.
Jordan Hedley is likely to take the net having backed up Goss through the U20 campaign.

Although I shan’t be attending in person this time around, I aim to catch every game and give you a rundown of the goings on.
A live webcast of all the games can be found here https://icehockeyuk.tv/ and is free to watch.
