Solihull Vixens – Raising funds for the future

As many Canadian families are too well aware, ice hockey is an expensive sport to partake in, yet alone play competitively.

As a minority sport in the UK, it’s much more of the same this side of the ocean.
It’s arguable even worse for teams with sponsorship being a tougher sell for a sport many people don’t fully understand or have ever watched.

It’s doubly difficult for when it’s comes to finding money for women’s sports unfortunately and one ice hockey team are looking for your support.

The Solihull Vixens were one of five founder member of the British Women’s Leagues in 1984.
It’s club that’s comes a long way in recent times and is now competing in the top (Elite) league.

During the 2016 Team GB World Championship campaign, Katie Henry from the Vixens was joint top scorer for her nation with ten points and Solihull can now also count anther international player Saffron Allen amongst their ranks.

The ladies have arranged to do multiple events as a team, in order to raise funds for the continued development of their club.
This will consist of a Gym repetition contest(s) at Fitness First Solihull on 25th February, competing against gym members.
The following day, they will attempt to cycle the equivalent distance (285 miles) from London to the Eiffel Tower in a combined effort using bikes at the aforementioned gym.

All monies raised will be put towards hosting beginners sessions, supporting new players and team training expenses. Re-investing back into a club and youth is really the only way forward when you’re self-funded as women’s hockey is.

It’s something the national team is buying into as the average age of the squad that competed at the aforementioned World Championships was 22.

The goal has been set at £1000, and monies thus far donated have achieved one third of the target.
No amount is too small and should you wish to help these ladies out please visit their Go Fund Me page here:
